PAST EXHIBITS
Día de los Muertos is on November 2nd, with celebrations beginning on November 1, Día de Muertos Chiquitos--The Day of the Little Dead also All Saints Day, and continuing on November 2, All Souls Day. It is a joyous occasion when the memory of ancestors and the continuity of life is celebrated. It is believed that at this time the souls of the departed return to visit the living. It is not a time of mourning since "the path back to the living world must not be made slippery by tears". Day of the Dead altars are built during Dia de los Muertos to honor the lives of those who have passed. They are often quite beautiful creations, constructed with love and care including their favorite foods, beverages, music, and other items the loved ones would enjoy when their soul returns to visit. Creating these altars is one of the most important traditions during Day of the Dead in Mexico, Mexican-American communities, and around the globe.

“Catrina Kahlo" acrylic on canvas $ 750
I painted Frida Kahol in this portrait “Catrina Kahlo” representing the duality of life & death. I painted Frida with the ying yang symbol on her forehead underneath a lotus flower because this represents to me the dualistic nature of life’s balance of light & dark.
It has been an honor for me to have had the chance to learn of the great Frida Kahlo. In admiration for the magnificent work she has taken part in & has produced. Along with the admirable example of how she triumphing over difficulties & concurred great tragedies. Her amazing story inspired me to paint her portrait in attempt to venerate her unyielding passion & adoration. Which in my opinion cannot be captured by mere words or pictures. In painting her portrait I can only wish to intrigue others to her incredible life story. As well as that others will also be inspired by her great qualities to role model & transform the world for a better tomorrow.

While they do not handle any tobacco leaves, cigar catadores are essential in the manufacturing of fine cigars. The catador is said to be found sitting in front of all torcedores (cigar rollers) reading aloud the daily newspaper and various books so as the monotonous work does not bore the torcedores.
